Vision Statement
Chronic and acute muscular pain represent a significant portion of overall healthcare expenditures in the United States. The prevailing approach to this issue is commonly framed under the umbrella of “pain management.”
Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy offers a different path—one focused on identifying and addressing the root causes of pain, without relying on drugs or surgery. Rather than merely managing symptoms, the objective is to eliminate pain by resolving its underlying sources.
Many of the factors that contribute to persistent pain are within the patient’s control and do not require pharmaceutical or surgical intervention. These often-overlooked contributors include everyday issues such as poor seated posture, inadequate sleep positioning, suboptimal nutrition, and subtle anatomical differences like unequal leg length, short upper arms, small hemi-pelvis, or a longer second toe.
Successful treatment hinges on a collaborative relationship between practitioner and patient. Together, they work toward a shared understanding of the specific causes of pain and develop a joint plan of action to correct them—leading not just to relief, but to lasting recovery.
MYO FOUNDATION—BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Sharon Sauer
PRESIDENT
Sharon Sauer’s connection with Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy began with a headache she suffered in September of 1983. She sought treatment from a therapist in Amherst, MA. The treatment was so successful, she wanted to know where the therapist learned her skills. It was the Bonnie Prudden School of Myotherapy and Physical Fitness. Sharon visited the school the next week and signed up for two years of training. She has been treating patients and training students ever since graduating from Bonnie Prudden in 1985.
During the past 40 years she has trained several hundred students and also got to know and learn from Dr. Janet Travell, Dr. Andrew Fischer and Dr. David Simons, the most renowned Doctors responsible for developing the field of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy.
Sharon has attended every annual conference of the National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists for the past 40 years. In 2010 she co-authored Trigger Point Therapy for Low Back Pain (New Harbinger). She looks forward to sharing the knowledge of the best practitioners in the field with both patients and new therapists, to help resolve chronic and acute pain without drugs or surgery.
